Chosen Ones, the newest and first adult novel from the bestselling author of the Divergent book series, Veronica Roth, is to be adapted to film. The book follows protagonist Sloane Andrews, who, a decade earlier, defeated a villain called the Dark One with four other teenagers. They’re known as the “Famous Five,” yet when we meet them later as adults, they’re facing PTSD, intense media attention, and other issues. It was released April 7, 2020.

The news about the Chosen Ones movie was announced by THR. The film rights were bought by Erik Feig, who will be producing with his company Picturestart. Other producers include Pouya Shahbazian, who worked on the Divergent films, Temple Hill, the team behind the Twilight and The Maze Runner movies, and Roth. Temple Hill in particular clearly has a solid track record with films based on YA novels.

Starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James, the Divergent movie came out in 2014, in the middle of the craze to adapt Young Adult dystopian books, like The Hunger Games. Two sequels followed, with a fourth TV movie in the works. There were issues with development, and it was eventually cancelled. Along with the Divergent series, Roth wrote the Carve the Mark duology, which sold more than 42 million copies. The news of a film adaptation is unsurprising from the Divergent author, given how successful her other books are.
