Hunter Schafer has helped write for her Euphoria character Jules Vaughn, which is part of why she has delivered such poignant lines.

Although season 2 ended a few months back, there are still plenty of people discussing the highs and lows of the most recent episodes of Euphoria. A major talking point has been the fact that Jules Vaughn, arguably the show’s most interesting character, didn’t have quite the showcase she deserved.

While that’s an arguable point, there is no doubt that Jules has earned her place as a fan favorite. With actress Hunter Schafer helping with some of the writing for Jules, it makes total sense that the character has delivered some memorable and iconic lines throughout the two seasons and her own special episode.

The Tyler/Nate Saga Was Crushing

“How Could None Of It Have Been Real?”

A major plot twist in season 1 revealed that the “Tyler” that Jules was romantically texting was actually Nate Jacobs. Jules poured her heart and soul out to him, developing real feelings that made Rue pretty jealous but it was all a ruse.

While speaking with her therapist about it, Jules shared this heartbreaking question. She just couldn’t fathom that the conversations they had meant nothing, which shows the kind of person Jules is. Interestingly, Nate confirmed to her in season 2 that he was being real about a lot of what they shared.

She Made Changes

“Somewhere Along The Way, I Feel Like The Femininity Conquered Me.”

The conversation that Jules has with her therapist gives incredible insight into what she’s feeling. Jules dropped this line while talking about possibly going off of her hormones. It’s an interesting concept to feel that “feminity conquered her.”

The line has to do with the way Jules looked at feminity and her thoughts on the way girls judge each other when they first meet. Ultimately, this showed growth as Jules realized that femininity isn’t just one thing and that it can’t be put neatly into one specific box.

She Wears Her Heart On Her Sleeve

“I Fall In Love So Easily. I Really Do. It’s, Like, Almost Embarrassing.”

The attraction between Jules and Rue was evident from the start but for the most part, it’s only shown from Rue’s perspective. She’s the narrator who is unsure of herself so the audience never really gets a chance to see how Jules feels about her.

During her special episode, Jules noted that she falls in love with ease, doing so with both Rue and “Tyler.” It’s interesting to consider that Jules finds her tendency to love embarrassing, as it shows that she might find it to be a weakness, which could shape her future relationships.

A Modern Woman

“What Do You Think This Is, The ’80s? Catch A D**K.”

Euphoria technically kicks off when Rue returns from a stint in rehab and a new school year starts. However, flashbacks showed events from the summer, which included a peek into the underdeveloped friendship between Jules and Kat.

With a lot of season 1 focusing on Kat becoming more comfortable in herself and her sexuality, this line from Jules rings as great advice. When she finds out that Kat is a virgin, Jules straight-up tells her to get with the times and do whatever she wants. It could come across as judgmental but the audience knows Jules would’ve supported her no matter what.

She Wants Something More

“What Men Want Is So Boring And Simple.”

Back on the subject of Jules’s view of herself, it’s interesting to consider this line. She noted to her therapist that she feels, “What men want is so boring and simple,” despite the fact that she often did things purely for men.

She even explained that she only had sex with men to that point and that she wasn’t even really enjoying it. Jules dressed, acted, and often changed for the men in her life and this was a big moment for Jules to realize that what she wants for herself is infinitely more important.

What Makes Rue Special

“Rue Is The First Girl That Didn’t Just Look At Me, She Actually Saw Me.”

As noted, Rue’s feelings for Jules were clear in season 1 and it even seemed at times like Jules didn’t reciprocate them nearly as much. Learning more about Jules revealed that she indeed loves Rue and she laid out this beautiful reason why.

Unlike other girls who were judgmental or had preconceived notions about her, Rue looked at Jules and actually saw the person inside. That apparently meant the world to Jules and plays a huge part in why she loves her much.

She Needs More Passion

“I Want You To Wanna Kiss Me So Bad That You Don’t Even Ask.”

Rue isn’t always sure of herself and that was the case when it came to being with Jules. At times, that kind of frustrated Jules who wanted to be swept up in something beautiful and passionate.

Jules voiced that opinion when talking to Rue in a bathroom stall. She doesn’t need to be asked about a kiss from Rue, she wants her girlfriend to go in and do it because she wants nothing more in the world. It’s an understandable concept from someone who wants to be loved.

Her Desires Are Sweet

“I Think I Want To Be As Beautiful As The Ocean.”

Although they’re pretty different on the surface, there are moments where Rue and Jules showcase their similarities. Rue’s special episode saw her reference feeling like the ocean and it’s intriguing that Jules said something similar.

For Jules, she wants to be as beautiful as the ocean. That’s a nod to trips to the water with her grandmother that she has fond memories of but it also plays into how Jules is someone who is always evolving. No matter what she does or how she changes, she’d like to remain as beautiful as ever, inside and out.

A Woman With Potential

“I Definitely Haven’t Reached My Full Power.”

An appreciated aspect of Jules’s character is that she is confident in herself. Even if she doesn’t always feel totally confident, Jules puts on a good show and she believes that there are big things coming for her future.

That was evident in this season 1 line. It might not have been said in a way to directly have to do with her life but it can be applied in that situation. It’s one of those quotes that works because it’s totally in character while also being versatile in meaning.

The Problem With The Rue Relationship

“I Feel Like Her Sobriety Is Completely Dependent On How Available I Am To Her.”

It’s not the happiest Jules quote but it is the one that kind of best sums up her role on Euphoria. With a lot of things being seen through Rue’s perspective, it could look like Jules was abandoning her at times but the special episode revealed that wasn’t the whole story.

Jules loves Rue but it’s a lot of pressure to be the thing that her sobriety is dependent on. She does her best with Rue but if any little thing does wrong, it could have devastating consequences, which is a lot for Jules to handle.
