Falcon & Winter Soldier Video Reveals Alternate John Walker Fight Scene

A new Falcon and Winter Soldier behind-the-scenes video shows a stunt previz reel going over an alternate John Walker fight scene that was scrapped.

New The Falcon and the Winter Soldier behind-the-scenes video reveals an alternate fight scene between John Walker and the Flag-Smashers. Briefly taking on the Captain America mantle after Sam Wilson gave up his chance, Walker was immediately disliked by Marvel Studios viewers despite the show trying to make him empathetic. Eventually, he made his villainous turn following the death of his best friend and partner Lemar Hoskins in battle and it’s immediately clear that he’s unworthy of the mantle.

Like Sam, Walker wasn’t physically enhanced the way Steve Rogers was. While he originally didn’t mind this, it eventually became the source of his insecurity, especially after his humiliating fight against the Dora Milaje. With a new supply of super-soldier serum courtesy of the Power Broker and Dr. Nagel, he ultimately decided to take a vial of the potion despite his initial hesitation, convinced that he needed to do his job more effectively. Once he’s taken the potion in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, he had been more capable and confident about going out as Captain America and facing off with Karli Morgenthau and the members of her team who were all powered by the serum.

It’s clear Walker took the super-soldier serum late into The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s run, something Valentina Allegra de Fontaine made mention of on the heels of his trial regarding the death of the Flag-Smasher member in Latvia. It’s unclear how exactly she knew that he’s now physically enhanced, but perhaps she’s able to deduce it upon seeing videos of him hammering Karli Morgenthau’s teammate in the town square. According to her, it’s the best that he did during his time as Captain America as it makes him more valuable to certain people. At the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Valentina helped Walker get a brand new superhero identity as U.S. Agent.

Looking at this previz, Walker’s moves were more fluid, as if he’s quickly gotten used to his elevated capabilities thanks to taking the super-soldier serum. In The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, his first outing on the heels of ingesting the potion was less precise and nimble. He was merely using his strength to power through the battle which he could given his enhanced physicality. Here, he’s almost as agile as Sam was after his intense training to master carrying the shield. In hindsight, it’s best that the show opted to use the fight sequence that ended up on the screen as it’s a more believable take on Walker’s skills considering that he didn’t have that much time to master his abilities yet at that point.
